The Springs Towns

Arkansas has so many beautiful rivers, streams and lakes. Once upon a time ... Hot Springs, Eureka Springs and Siloam Springs were healing waters. Very interesting history to these three little towns. I grew up a hop skip from Hot Springs and lived on the lake a couple of years ago. Hot Springs has fountains you can still fetch water from... the taste is sensational! they have also revitalized Bath House Row... there are a couple of working bathhouses now. The springs from Eureka and Siloam are too contaminated to drink... There are other springs in Arkansas you can still drink from... but very very few. sigh

Here's more pictures of Eureka and Siloam .... I'm in Oklahoma City --- not too thrilled with the Route 66 route... I'm just not into little towns with not too much --- I mean there is a Round Barn and a museum and old buildings --- following the route is really tedious.... you're on it and then you're not.... not worth the effort, to me. It has been so chopped up.... bikers seem to enjoy this route. There are lot of bars and eateries and such for the bikers.

My plans as of this moment ... 7:18pm is to head for Boulder, Colorado... why? because I did a search for healthiest cities and it came up as number one for walking and healthy food. I would like to go somewhere to fill m'soul as well as get healthy .... tired of being tired. Tired of driving and trying to enjoy .... nah... driving for an hour then stopping and ... well? I'm just cynical and I have been and seen most of this 'type' of scenery ... Oklahoma and the Panhandle of Texas is just not my cup of tea... I thought I would enjoy the Route 66 thing... but --- not my thing....

Mountains, and streams and such .... soooo onward - it's 11 hours from Oklahoma City to Boulder. I do love Colorado and the gas isn't as high there as it is in California.... then --- as of right now, :D I would like to boogie on up to the upper midwest on down to Asheville, North Carolina... I've been that route too but I love that scenery. I might go on up to Door County, Wisconsin again. Jeeeeeez that's beautiful... and I do like Asheville, a lot.

Eureka Springs is multi leveled... one way going all the way up to the historic and absolutely breahtaking Crescent Hotel. I've stayed there in the past and walked everywhere. Too steep for this old woman now! ... wish I had gotten pictures. They used to have this great cat over 20 years old... jeez can't remember his name... great cat - always on the front porch.

Hard to see the uppermost level with a car parked by its residence and then the middle level is yet another residence with a table and umbrella on its deck... So very damn cool!

Lots of places ---- no smoking! and pick up yer damned butts!

Ahhhh they did put him back together again!

Siloam Springs --- is this beautiful or what... cute little ol town

I do read my blog list blogs at night all snugged up in Homer but blast! sometimes the  blogs won't take comments... I don't know why .... I can type stuff in and it says it's ready to publish ... click publish ... and everything goes away! soooo even though I'm not commenting... I'm reading! could be just the coverage wherever I'm parked for the night... usually at Walmart.

Well? tomorrow ... we'll see where I'm going. I have been on the road to so and so and then go so and so.. Hahaaa... whatever!

  1. Carolyn, I worked for a federal judge in Harrison for two years and spent many wonderful weekends in Eureka Springs. My mother's side of the family comes from a small town in the Missouri Ozarks just north of there. And by the way, thank you for your comment on my recent post. I hope you will go back and view my response. All the best,
    Galen

  2. Aye Carolyn, I'm back home in one piece. I had a great time and talked to a lot of hookers.... a hum, rug hookers that is. A bit of an expensive trip but I needed a vacation.
I made a reservation for next year any way.

I've been trying to catch up with tons of emails and blog comments having been away from the computer. I'm amazed how much time it take to connect with every one.

I love the great pictures you posted. Such beautiful places to visit.

I'm sorry that you miss your granddaughter so much. I wonder what causes so much mixed emotions in you even when you are free and on the road like you wanted to be. I think that it's all the uncertainty that is still ahead of you. I hope that you will have some great experiences.

I got a new calf yesterday that I haven't seen yet. Take care, Hugs. JB

  3. The picture of Eureka Springs reminds me a little of Harpers Ferry, WV. Your comments on Rte 66 are interesting to me as I felt the same way about the section in CA. Not that it was so much chopped up, but there was nothing on it and the terrain was boring. I've often thought I'd like to drive the part in NM.

  6. Hey, yeah...Portland, Oregon is very nice. That's where I originated. Didn't fall too far from the tree, as we've been in Eugene, Oregon now since 1971. Where does the time go? I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up, and now I'm retired...so I guess I'll be whatever I want to be now!

    1. That was my original plan to go up Highway 1 and end up back in Portland. I was there for four months until Mt. St. Helen blew! Haaaa... decided to go on back south and spent 6 months in Coronado, California. I used to temp here and there.... now that I'm retired, I wanted to go back and just relax and see things differently than when I HAD to find work to pay for a place to live and so forth.

Now it's just me and ol Homer.

Love that area AND I need to go to Washington State! All the time I was in Portland... I had planned on going on up but got distracted - then when St. Helen blew, that would have to wait for another time. Portland is such a neat place but being southern... I announced I had to go find some sunshine... jeeeeEEEEz I can only go so long with seeing some sun! At first it was wonderful - loved the mist and the way it made my complexion glow! Haaa... BUT ... I gotta have more sun.

I was forced to grow up these last 8 years and I don't like it. I just celebrated my third 23rd birthday... Cyn? was that you? or Di... ;)

I want to go splash in the rain and not worry about a damn thing... hah

    1. oh really? I've never spent too much time in Arizona but other than the Grand Canyon and Lake Havasu --- everything I saw was deserty .... guess I'll need to explore more... I've never been much of a desert person and happened on Lake Havasu while trying to go north from Yuma to get cooler! Then decided -- well, lookee here! there's the Grand Canyon and so had to go see it... breathtaking!
