It was a dark and stormy night...

I'm sitting in Homer at m'campground -- dark stormy day… whizz boom bam wind… rain and almost hail … it was all around but we just got very high winds. Especially since my camp spot is right on the water.

The beginning...

Moving right along...

Such a beautiful just right temperature day with very pretty storm clouds gathering over the lake… the shoreline is rocky with lots of trees… my kind of landscape.

I've got an electrical cord placed inside Homer through his window. I have 'socks' for his two back windows that unfortunately were for a Pilot not an Odyssey but it does help with at least a four inch crack on both windows. When the storm really hit... I unplugged and moved farther into the interior of the park and waited until it subsided. Too close to the water. Lightning is something I  truly respect.

Homer is not intimidated by Class A's and such... no he's not... there were lots of mansions out there and some not so mansions.... Idn't Homer cute

The next morning? glorious. Thank you Universe/God... man on man you do good work! I'm having coffee inside Homer rather than connecting outside because it was still a bit wet but the windows were all unprotected. My campsite is such with no one around except in the back and I have that curtain up when I'm dressing and such.

That bit of black at the top of Homer's window is the 'sock' ... and that's my side view

My coffee situation below the above side view ... kinda blurry but Homer's not fully awake yet

I'm a freakin genuis... this little ol fan holds water - ice water would be lovely... I have it hanging over m'bed and reach up and spray me a nice cool misty spray of water .... very very nice

.... a hear a HELLO …

seriously.

A man's face is peering through m'window… have mercy.  I had just put my blouse on but was in the process of pulling up m'britches! I have rather dark tinted windows... but!

Now you understand I can't stand up in Homer... I was lying down on m'bed pulling my britches on! jeeeeeeezus

I said… yes? trying to be cool … said he hadn't seen me outside and was worried about me. A very nice little guy … I said, well, how sweet and thanked him. Assured him I was fine. At the same time thinking … how extremely intrusive! I would never walk into someone's campsite. But then my being an old fluffy grey haired women out here all by myself in a van… I mean… I must be coming here to die … I guess… I don't know what he was thinking.

Soooooo went on about my rat killing and took pictures and walked about. Then along comes around noontime and he approaches me with a plate of food!

seriously.

I was eating an apple and a rice cake with almond butter and raisins on top. I said…well? thank you but I'm… he interrupted and said … now, these are leftovers and we just wanted to share with you… his demeanor was one of concern and I guess thinks since I'm living in a van (I am) and I'm homeless (kinda sorta am) … HAhaaa… oh, lord…. I didn't think I looked THAT bad… I mean my hair is all wind blown and I'm in capris, flops and a silk shirt… so I don't know…. whatever… he was a nice little old feller and I know he wasn't trying to insult me but … jeeeeez

I said thank you….

Ahem… TWO battered and fried pork chops with REAL mashed potatoes and gravy with a slice of wheat bread. jeeeez - just what a fat person needs.

Being southern is such temptation

I decided I really had to eat this stuff… I mean this stuff will kill ya but oh, man whatta way to go! anyway… had a couple bites of the taters… and chops … noticed a tee tiny little bird in front of me…. I wanted a picture and he let me get really close. I fed him some of my rice cakes… didn't eat it … such a tiny little thing…

Can you see him? little thing....

What manner of little fellow is he... he let me get so close that I thought something is wrong...

Then and THEN the wind came about .. holy moly! I went back to the table and m'food hadflown away! hah!

The little guy tried to climb --- yes climb a tree.. and the wind knocked him down on the gravel! he shook his little head and started chirping and I started crying and wanted to pick him up but he looked so scared and so I called the park ranger and they said they would send someone out… meanwhile I'm retrieving flown away food and trying not to cry and watching the little bird ….. I got really close to him and wanted to pick him up again but he jumped to the tree and started climbing… the wind was getting stronger! so I cupped my hands under him … but he kept going higher… his little feet were getting stuck in the bark! but I guess that's what they do… what kind of little bird is this!?

I stood there with cupped hands and followed him around and around the tree … I guess this really gave the neighbors something to be concerned about… haaaaa…

anyway… BAM ZAP ---- disconnected my electric cord and me and Homer went farther into the Park away from the water and weathered the storm.

The ranger never came and I don't see the little bird laying on the ground … JEEEeeez I can't stand to see a little thing hurt and helpless like that…

anyway… here I am using Text Edit to write this and listening to Rod McKuen and the Sebastian Strings … shee boy… made me a cup of cocoa and ate some fig bars… looking out at what would be a sunset if there had been sun today… but it's still pretty.. y'know? the light fading away… the water is calm … the trees are moving about very pretty like … the air is crisp and fresh…

Using Text Edit to gather --- I say gather my thoughts

I'm alive and feel good… going to check into getting a keyboard for my iPhone… if I had that… it does everything my laptop does … little  bitty screen though for watching DWTS… Maks still looks good though...

Again… thankful for options and electricity and my iPhone and laptop … :D

I'll post this when I get wifi somewhere.

  1. Looks like a white-breasted nuthatch to me... though he does look like he just fledged. Watch for birds that "climb" down the trees head first... and listen for a "twonk... twonk". (my imitations aren't very good)... Glad you made it through the storm okay... I'm like you... I unplug when it gets like that.

  2. Ahhh, he sounds like a baby. I'll bet it was. And it's probably fine now. Poor little thing though. Yes, I'd say eat that meal! It's not like you are eating like that every day now, so it probably did you some good. Every once in a while, we need stick to your ribs food. although it was kind of weird for you, it was nice that they were looking out for you. I've had that too in my RV. I think some people just kind of freak a little when they see women by themselves, so they extend kindness to us. It's not a bad thing so long as bad intentions aren't in the picture. I wonder how much it would cost to get the windows tinted?

    1. I do have the windows tinted ... but they aren't see thru proof... he was peering in at the window because he couldn't see otherwise! HAhaaa... oh, lord!

Yes... I really didn't get offended ... he meant well

  3. Hi there Carolyn, welcome back.. Geez, two posts in one day. You're running way ahead of me and I'm getting behinder and behinder., hahaha.

I'm glad that you finally confirmed that the ties has been cut and you are finally free of your perceived obligations on the home front. Chapter closed, sealed, shut..

Happy Birthday to your little granddaughter. My little grandson is one year old and two months old today. He had a cast taken for his little stump and in a couple of weeks they will fit him with a small hand for him to get use to, the poor little guy.

That little baby bird looks like a baby bluejay. I went online to investigate it further and saw one like yours. The mother can't be too far behind.

For privacy, can you just pin some kind of little curtain with safety pins. Something that you can jut put up and take down for when you're on the road?

Anyway, it's good that you found that good old girl under all that s*** and he still has her sense of self back. Now I'm not so worried about you anymore... I don't know if that's good or bad. I know that you'll be fine. I've read both blogs post and chose to comment on this one longer.

    Hugs, JB

    1. Yes... chapters closed ... yes... I have privacy curtains but I don't close them during the day ... I never do ... especially when no one is around me. I had the back curtain up -- the only window facing any one ... even though they were across the little road!

He had to walk into my campsite and peer in the window! HAhaaa....

I hope the little thing's Mother was close by... kept waiting for her to come! snd that's another reason I was hesitant to try and pick the little thing up because I've always heard that if the Mother smells a human on her baby - they will abandon it... dunno if that's true.. just always heard that. I was also afraid I might scare it so that it would tumble farther away ... I just hate stuff like that.

Thank you for your worry... lol... I'm such a todo. I will always be fine... if not.. then I'm not... I do what I can do and ... am so very grateful that I have a fabulous sense of humor and love ... love nature.

A beautiful crisp morning and a morning after a storm? wow stuff

  4. Just a short comment. I've got to get some more yard work done. My back feels lot better than last night.

I was thinking, little old McGiver me... Why don't you use some masking tape to hold light pieces of curtains for privacy at night or to keep the sun out sometimes I'm sure you can find a secondhand store. They're everywhere. It would be quick to take down and put up if your interior is vinyl or safety pins if the interior is fabric. JB

    1. bless your heart... Julia... I might just take more pictures of Homer inside to show my set up. I have black fuzzy kind of material that I cut to fit the windows. I have attached velcro along the windows and the black fuzzy material just sticks on and it's very easy to take on and off....

I'm a freakin genius! I thought you knew that... ;)

  5. Glad to hear you have the velcro curtains. I use the same thing for curtains in my mini-van. And just like you, I don't have them up ALL of the time, and laying down to change.... nobody can see anything unless they peer in... What a great laugh with this story! Thank you!

    1. 'morning, Wanderoke... yes, this works the best of anything I've tried. What I like about the fuzzy material on one side... is that I only put the ... well.. whatever the attacher thing is that the fuzzy side attaches to. I had a terrible time in the beginning with putting both the fuzzy attacher and the other attacher... the fuzzy one always came off.

I still have to replace the attacher ones ever now and then - especially if it gets really hot. I've gotten the industrial strength ones but the heat will stil get to them.

haaa... you're welcome... it was funny because I knew the little guy meant absolutely no harm but holy jeez! sticking his head up to the window? not a thought in his head that that was intrusive .... and that made it even more funny...
