I want to write about my journey here --- I was so exhausted. Looking for a place to stay. I tried all the parks and such, Cyn that you so graciously gave the website for. No showers! and man oh man did I need a shower ;)
A lot of construction is going on on a main road Bear Creek Road in Rocky Mountain National Park and some areas are closed. I went to the visitor center and asked if I could just park there. no. Found a little hospital and was going to take a chance there but I reeeeally wanted a shower. Stopped at three different places - not open until May 12th!
The place I found has a history that I want to blog about.... but for right now? I want to share this gorgeous place. shee boy
I've seen lots of things outside my motel rooms in my years... but never an Elk just casually walking down the road ... cars going by. He knows he has the right of way. I liked to have spilled m'coffee! I have a huge wide window and a front deck with glass ... I see a car slow down and a furry legged thing and it's an ELK ... saw some coming up yesterday ... blocked the road they did.. HAHaaaa..... a pickemup scared 'em off. I guess he's used to the Elk taking over the road and this guy was having none of it. I hope you can enlarge this enough to see the guy... what fun!
The view from my side window. I'm sitting here typing with this view. :D The screen fell off and this is a bright, this morning picture. The Fall River looks like sunshine instead of water! Makes glorious sounds tumbling over huge rocks and little rocks and turning corners.... heaven
From My deck.. I have the deck door open ... the sounds from this plus the window being open on the side? please...
My room.... :D
My supper last night --- I had gone to Whole Foods in Broomfield outside of Boulder. I wanted to pick up a few staples - m'fig bars, fruit and nuts. Good ol Yerba Mate green tea... I got a little slice of Brie - it tastes better at room temperature, to me. If I had known I was going to find this place... I would have bought accordingly. I have a microwave and fridge. But this is great. I don't even want to leave to go into town to get anything. This is just heaven.
I wish I could find a place like this to rent forever ... my kind of place. I've always like Estes Park.
I got this room for a three night kinda deal... pay for two nights then the third is free... right. Sooooo for a grand total of $164.56 ... I have paradise for three nights and three days.
After this? I can go a bit between showers and will try one of the no - bath places... I dunno though... I'm not much of a wilderness - primitive type kid. who knows what I am... I change hourly... /nobigdeal

Carolyn, This sounds and looks wonderful! Elk outside your window. What a great place to Be, at a great price! Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! we were commenting to each other at the same time... ahhhh yes. I wish it could be for longer but I'll take what I can. ;)
ReplyDeleteThree nights for $154.66 is a great deal. It must be more expensive during the tourist season. Great picture of the elk.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you found this place to stay and rest a bit. How lucky that they even throw in an elk just for you. hahaha. JB
$164.56 and yes... I'm sure it will go up within two to three weeks - It's $75/night now. Did you enlarge the picture?
DeleteIt's so pretty except for the smoker who likes to sit on his side of the deck.... why oh why do the hotels/motels say no smoking then allow smoking right out your door... drives me insane.... er
always something...
Yes Carolyn, I did enlarged the photos. I don't want to miss anything.
DeleteI have that feature on my blog too. Just click on the photo to enlarge photo. I drives me nuts when I click on a photo for a closer look or to read the fine print and it doesn't get any bigger but just go up in the corner.
Sorry about the smoker spoiling it for you again. That drives me nuts too. Hugs JB
I had a row with him yesterday ... I just get so stopped up. So inconsiderate and belligerent. Typical. told him I was allergic to smoke and wondered why he didn't smoke in front of his room.... said he wanted sunshine... I said you can't smoke in the shade?
Deleteon and on and he finally left and hasn't been back... by damn I just moved my chair right next to he and his wife ... sat there and talked LOUDly on my phone to noone.. HAaaa --- sang... I held a washcloth over my nose.
I've been hacking for two days because of that inconsiderate bad name.,.. no sense to it...
My singing can clear a room pretty fast... HAHaaaaa
Oh it's beautiful there!! Remember, you can always go to Pilot or FlyingJ for showers too. I imagine by now, you needed to treat yourself to a room that you can walk around in & relax. And watch TV!! I'll come back later to enlarge the pics. Have to go bathe Afghans now. Dogs that is...
ReplyDeleteI don't think a Flying J or Pilot would show its head around here... but yes I knew that but I don't care for them much. I know they do a through job of cleaning after each person but I just don't like them. I'd rather go to a campground and pay the day fee or spend the night.
DeleteYes... a few nights in a motel just does wonders! bathing Afghans... well? that'll keep you busy... big dogs!
thorough ... sheez
DeleteWhen I backpacked I usually only stopped at a hostel or motel about once a week to get a shower. But in between, I used "The Wet Ones". Wipe yourself all over with those, use a bit of deodorant, and definitely put on clean underwear. I swear it is the most luxurious feeling. I did all this in a small backpacker's tent, by the way.
ReplyDeleteI use baby wipes... the unscented kind ... works great - I bathe each night with those... also use Pond's facial towel things for m'face.
Deleteit's my hair that's the problem. I can clean me pretty well... I've got very dry skin and take short showers anyway. But my hair! I've thought of doing the dry shampoo --- but I still like a shower at least once a week.
If I wouldn't look like a bowling ball, I'd get it all cut off! a wrinkled old bowling ball... HAHaaaa....
I went through Estes Park, Loveland, and Fort Collins about 15 years ago. I wish I remember which town it was I liked the most. I am sure it was Estes Park, because that's the one that is in the forest. I hope you have a wonderfully relaxing time while you are there. It sounds like a great place to recharge your batteries. The elk was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is just beautiful here. Along with my morning chat with the manager and owner of this motel... they told me that Estes Park has a temperate climate with hardly any snow... there is some but it bypasses here and heads to the ski slope places.
DeleteThat's why a lot of people live here and commute to Denver and elsewhere.... I was wondering how in the world they got out of this place during the snow....
Yes... today... I'm finally feeling a bit relaxed... for the first time in a loooooooong time. water and mountains will do that for me! the sound right out my window... looking at that glorious Fall River now ... oh, and a little chipmunk is just scampering about the rocks... soooooo cute!
I didn't know you, then, Carolyn. I can tell you this. If my health permitted me to be back out there this year, that's where I'd be. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy ... your health will get better ... BEeeecause you got to get back out there... it is decreed!
