I just had the most delightful day. Every where I went there were friendly, fun people!
I went to the hair salon --- I picked this one because they do 'old' people's hair. By that I mean, they know what to do with gray hair that is thinning.
Doyle is the owner and the one who did my hair. What a sweetheart. Had pictures of his g'babies around his mirror. We chatted and chatted. And, since I was getting a permanent, there is the proverbial wait time... he and I and another hairdreser talked about a lot of stuff. Really interesting. LOVE that kind of stuff.... bright eyed and bushy tailed folk.
THEN ... well? I have these black cloth shoes --- they are in the style of the old Mary Jane's ... but these are black cloth with an embroidered dusty rose colored rose and muted green color leaves ... I really like them. This delightful lady walked up and said she liked my shoes and asked where I got them. I told her.
She was even harder of hearing than I am... Hahaaaaa... so it was fun helping her hear. We started talking about dancing and she did a bit of a sway --- DWTS chat got us there...;)
She said she used to dance to the big band music and I told her how I like that music also. I said I was born in 1943 but I do remember them and later -- even with Elvis! I liked that kind of music
She said - oh, you're so young... I said... right. SHE WAS 91 ---- NINETY ONE YEARS OLD --- hells freakin bells --- hardly any wrinkles... Doyle had done her hair -- so pretty and fluffy! My hero! 91... freakin ... years ... old...
What a delightful delightful woman. I just enjoyed the hell outta that experience. One reason I hadn't gotten a permanent in eons is because I don't like waiting --- just don't like getting perms... blech
This was such a treat. Now... my hair? well? it feels good .... I told him I do not want that little ol lady kind of hairdo... all fixed and short and I don't care what 'they' say... old woman don't HAVE to have short hair. AND I'll wear white after labor day ... so there... we had a nice discussion about 'they'... HAhaaaa
Anyway, with my lifestyle and personality... I wanted a wash and wear hairstyle. He layered it and gave me a body wave.. and it brought back many memories... Except that now... there's all these wrinkles and fat cheeks and so on and so forth. We also had a nice chat about aging and 50th high school reunions... His is next summer. Mine was this summer. He also doesn't have many wrinkles... nice, pleasant man. The g'pa kinda looking guy.
So... I'll post a picture. I did take off the lines from my mouth... doesn't help much... Laugh Out Loud ... but whatever. I just aimed the camera in Homer and shot. It's still a little wet - especially in the back. It's me. I'm out of denial mode and into acceptance mode. ;)

That's a really nice, soft perm. Suits you really well. And your eyes are GORGEOUS! I'm really thinking that with those blue eyes, gray hair it the perfect framing for them.
ReplyDeleteOh you look great girlfriend!! Now treat yourself & go somewhere.
ReplyDeleteaw.... thanks you guys... ;)
ReplyDeleteand I plan on agettin!
Hej Carolyn! You look wonderful. You've got a lovely face and pretty blue eyes. I'm happy for you. Enjoy!

Your hair really sets off your beautiful eyes, the windows to the soul. :) Now, you need a solid plum colored top. Plum looks really good with blue eyes. so does your smile.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us see the results. Very nice!
g'morning Grethe ́ and Teresa ;) thank you...
ReplyDeletePlum? Hahaaaa... oh, me. plum? Well I said I'd never do that blue hair of my Mother's generation type thing...
but plum? maybe I'll get a plum comb.
oh my lord they're talking about a uniboob on GMA! her breast implants merged! oh, dear lord... well? guess I'll listen -- she's so young! why oh why do women feel compelled to do this sort of stuff.
I LOVE the perm. It looks great!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful picture and you are beautiful. As I was reading, I was hoping you included a picture and you did. Thank you. Your hair looks lovely. I have longer hair too.... sometimes pulled back. What a "good-feeling-day-at-the -salon" you had.
ReplyDeleteManzanita@Wannabuyaduck
Hi Manzanita ... thanks... you all are so sweet. makes my day.
ReplyDeleteIt was a very good feeling day... ;)
My blog roll thing drives me insane. I have the blogs I follow show updates! I just checked yours and you have a new post! my blog must be jealous... didn't tell me.
I'm gonna run over and see what you say.
How in the world did you get Wanna Buy a Duck for the name of your blog? lmao...
Thanks Gypsy ... you about ready to roll? and well? your update didn't show either... I dunno - thought I'd trained my blog better... guess not
ReplyDelete4 days and 23 hours left before you go... excited for you. Still hoping I can go....
Excited about meeting Chris Vermont tomorrow!
I'm still packing the coach. It's so full and I'm sure it's overweight. Gonna have it weighed in Livingston.
ReplyDeleteGetting excited. It's hard to believe that I'm actually going. I've planned this trip for a year and now it's almost time to go. Hurrah!
Gypsy... just met with Chris.. delightful! will see her again tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThis is your first trip out of your home area? I know you are excited and I'm excited for ya... what fun! and off to an adventure...
wanna go!
That looks good! Plus, can I retouch my face IRL without surgery? Seems like there should be Photoshop on the Go. We'll call it Facetime.
ReplyDeleteYes, you do have pretty eyes, even IRL. :D Seems like the colors you wore in Georgia were good, although I can't remember what they were.
I know I left sexy and beautiful behind 25 years ago. Hoping I picked up smarts and compassion. I wasn't such a great package back then, and I'm guessing you're a lot better deal than you were at 25.
Yes, this is my first trip out of my area except for the return trip from Florida where I purchased the coach. I've traveled around the country in the 1970s but never in style. This will be a real pleasure for me to have the comforts of an RV.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time wit Chris.
Lovely - and I really see quite a bit of sassy in your eyes there! :) That's great! Now I may living in a total delusion but my trick to staying young is just not to let that old person in - in fact, I never use the dang word old. You are only 4 yrs old than I am, btw. Yes, total denial works for me quite well and I swear it is more mental than anything.
ReplyDeleteI dye my own hair - auburn, which is redder than my birth hair and I like it for the sassy value. I keep my head fixated on what I can do vs what I can't (for whatever reason but never say I'm too old).
Last year I took up Zumba - thought I'd have a coronary but it got easier each week. I'm sure I'm the senior in the class - who cares? I don't jump as much as the kids do doing it, but I laugh and have fun and get one heck of a workout.
Kick the tires, kiddo. There's plenty of life left in them!
Hugs
Susan
Roxanne, what's IRL? I used iPhoto to do my mouth lines... jeeez the camera really picks up those guys. You don't need retouching ... you're still a kiddo ;) and, no… I'm afraid the accumulation of worthlessness has caught up with me ... sigh
ReplyDeleteGypsy! well, what fun! and yes, Chris and I have had an interesting time. She has been everywhere! It's great fun to show someone the place you chose to live and have them like it too. Takes on a whole noter outlook.
Susan.... yes, keeping the old out. I did for a long time. That's one reason I'm so surprised by my attitude... needs adjusting reeeeally bad... and that's my quest... an attitude adjustment ... It's an ongoing todo. All a growing process. I'll keep growing till the day I won't.
I still do lots of silly, fun stuff. balloon kicking... chatting with strangers ... hugging a g'baby.... finding sugarless and vegetarian stuff to eat and enjoying the hell out of them....
My curiosity keeps me moving alone... I just don't have much patience... I want to moved along... BUT then what would I do.
My house ... that's the next adjustment... the attitude adjustment will help that... then on to my ongoing quest of finding a peach that comes close to the ones I remember as a kid. I have been on that quest since 2005. I've gone out of my way to orchards and such ... peaches along the highways ... Whole Foods and Fresh Food Markets and Farmer's Markets... bah
I love to swim and want to reenter that exercise. I look lovely in a swimsuit... just lovely.
Carolyn, Annie asked if you had lost weight. Or did you 'shop off a pound or two? "IRL" = in real life.
ReplyDeleteYes GLD ... ;) I dropped a few ... I had gained a bunch before the GTG and was miserable.
ReplyDeleteEspecially miserable! after I saw the pictures! good lord... looked like my Aunt Maudie Mae..
